Today was going to be tricky, and so I needed to plan for it well in advance. I was meeting up with my two sisters in London to visit the Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy.
Look at the phases in the book……..oh, oh, I hadn’t thought about it when I had stepped forth on my journey and suddenly realised……LUNCH! Brown bag it, the book advises. Brown bags? What do you do with those I wondered and then of course, it hit me as I read on…….method of carrying pre-planned, packed lunch while sticking to Day Five.
Worked out fine, too, even in the absence of a brown bag, which is not favored here in the UK as lunch-carrying material. We dined elegantly on the benches in front of the gallery, each with our own salad. I also had my healing snacks with me and managed to discreetly munch on one while the girls took cake/ scones with strawberry jam and cream at afternoon tea time. Gold star to me!
Luckily neither of my sisters has developed diabetes but one of them has arthritis. I told her to take a look at Jim Healthy’s book, Arthritis Interrupted, and the arthritis-healing recipes on MyHealingKitchen.com.
I spent another restless night feeling hungry, tired and desperate for some sleep, and went back to the beginning of the book. I must have missed something somewhere. YEP! Dessert. Just some yogurt, cinnamon and a few nuts did the trick. zzzzzzzzzzz like a baby.
Yet another successful day…..Thanks Dr Ripich and Jim Healthy. (Do you get many proposals of marriage I wonder? JOKE)
Let’s talk about blood sugar readings.
I use one of those small finger pricking devices. Now let’s add here that I am needle-phobic to the point of fainting almost at the sight of a sewing needle. That’s caused me a lot of embarrassment over the years, by passing out sometimes on top of people too! I mean, you just don’t need a 15 stone, 6ft 1” tall woman landing on you, without at least the courtesy of shouting TIMBER beforehand. No time, it just happens.
SO, way back before I started The 30 Day Diabetes Cure, this six foot wimp took a jolly long time to get used to using the machine in the first place. Took it out, positioned it – yeah yeah it says this is the only one that isn’t painful. As if.
Well, it was true. I finally plucked up the courage, did it……….didn’t faint because of course it’s not a needle anyway, it’s lancet and you can’t see it at all, didn’t hurt and there was the blood and the reading.
OH DEAR. I mentioned before that the GP practice nurse didn’t have what one might term a good bedside manner, refuse point blank to help me to find ways of losing weight whilst moaning that I was far too heavy and also told me that my score should be between 4 and 7.
WRONG! It should be MUCH lower than that, and mine was running at 19 when I was first diagnosed. PHEW, lots of OMG’s being muttered here I should imagine. Amazing I was still standing really wasn’t it?! Since then I have lost 3.5 stone (hang on whilst I work out the pounds here, maths isn’t my strong point). That’s 49 lbs and FOUR dress sizes.
My readings were down to 8.9, getting there and then stress hit the fan faster than a rat up a drainpipe and up it went again to around the 13 mark. Dangerous and desperate about it I honed in again, exercised more but it just didn’t seem to make a difference.
This morning, after only 5 days on The 30 Day Diabetes Cure, my reading was 10.3. An improvement worthy of note, in just FIVE days of my healing journey. Although I know it’s not a great idea to do it again after eating, especially after an evening meal, I did. For purely scientific reasons you understand. I thought the machine had broken but ……it was there in front of my eyes, shouting, “It’s working!” at 10.2. And I had eaten my meals, my healthy snacks, done my exercise and was heading for bed. WOW, wonder what it will be in the morning – be prepared for it to have gone up overnight because for some bizarre reason it does.

Hello from London, England. My name is Susannah Rettel and I am a retired special needs teacher with a particular interest in dyslexia. I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes seven years ago and have fought constantly to control it with diet and exercise, as I firmly believed that if you could develop it you could also reverse it. My leisure time is spent gardening, reading, walking, going to Zumba dance classes, and listening to music. I became a Reiki Master/teacher and practitioner in 2001 and I haven’t looked back since. I love traveling, meeting new people, spending time with family and friends and just enjoying my retirement, preferably in the sunshine.
