Over 4,000 walkers in Houston and The Woodlands raised $543,000 to help stop diabetes
THE WOODLANDS, Texas — More than 1,000 Woodlands residents were part of the Stop Diabetes movement by participating in the American Diabetes Association’s Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes in Houston and The Woodlands. A record breaking $543,000 was raised and will be used in support of the Association’s mission: to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes.
“Thanks to the energy, enthusiasm and commitment of our walkers, volunteers, and sponsors, Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes was a resounding success,” said American Diabetes Association Executive Director, Ralston Creswell. “The money they raised will help change the future of diabetes.”
Today, there are nearly 26 million Americans—including 45,000 in Montgomery County—who have diabetes. While an estimated 18.8 million have been diagnosed, unfortunately, 7 million people are unaware that they have the disease. If current trends continue, one in three American adults will have diabetes by 2050.
Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes provides an opportunity for employees, friends and family to come together for a fun, healthy activity. It’s an event for anyone who wants to support the Association and raise critical funds that will help Stop Diabetes. The Woodlands walk brings people together to raise awareness and encourages the sense of community among all present. The funds raised by those in The Woodlands area are vital to the success of Step Out, and the gratitude to all those who participated cannot be emphasized enough.
