We often get asked what makes the Juvenile Diabetes Cure Alliance unique – how are we different from the major foundations, what makes us stand out from other diabetes non-profit organizations, how are we contributing to the search for a cure.
So here are 5 main factors that make the JDCA unique:
1. We are an entirely independent non-profit organization that does not accept or handle charity donations. We are funded entirely by our founder and are not influenced by any outside sources.
2. We are focused solely on the pursuit of a type 1 diabetes Practical Cure. No other organization out there has made a cure exclusively its mission.
3. We provide an objective analysis of the four major diabetes foundations and how they allocate money donated towards a cure.
4. We provide both a definition of what a type 1 diabetes cure might be – our Practical Cure, as well as a timeline for which we project a cure can be developed (2025)
5. We report news on cure breakthrough and research, but we do not focus only on one area, such as stem cell research. We believe that we should be looking out for any potential sources for a cure and focus research money on work that is most likely to facilitate a cure that lives up to our Practical Cure definition.
Big changes are needed to move us onto the right direction for finding a cure – and the JDCA’s mission is to provide a clear, transparent analysis of the work being done by the major foundations, so that people can make more informed decisions.
