McCormick Place to host diabetes expo

The American Diabetes Association will present an expo from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 14 at McCormick Place in Chicago.

Admission to the expo is free. The event will offer health screenings, cooking demonstrations, product and service exhibitors, as well as health experts talking about diabetes management and prevention.

The expo will include:

A cooking demonstration by Jamie Deen. With the announcement of Paula Deen’s Type 2 diabetes, she and her sons have started a new initiative called Diabetes in a New Light. Through the program, the Deens are creating modified, diabetes-friendly versions of their favorite recipes.

A more interactive American Diabetes Association experience. Learn about Tour de Cure bike challenges, updated program initiatives such as Living with Type 2 and Recipes for a Healthy Living and research being funding locally by the association.

Youth Zone speakers with topics specific for parents of children with diabetes. Topics will include a Safe at School presentation that will offer the opportunity to ask legal professionals questions about Section 504 and The Care of Students with Diabetes Act.
