Raising money for type 1 diabetes research
Yesterday, 1st May 2012, Brenda Novak’s annual Online Auction for Diabetes Research began and runs through the entire month. The charity auction is intentionally set during the month of May as a promising Mother’s Day gift – a type 1 diabetes cure.
Brenda Novak, New York Times Best Selling author, has amassed a spectacular assortment of auction-able items – from jewelry to vacations (even a safari) – and ALL proceeds go directly to the Diabetes Research Institute (DRI) at the University of Miami to fund research for a Type 1 diabetes cure. Recently, I wrote about the Diabetes Research Institute HERE.
Brenda has facilitated the annual fundraiser every May in honor of her youngest son who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 5. This is the 7th year of the on-line auction for diabetes research according to Publishers Weekly, and it is Brenda’s hope that 2012 efforts will raise more than 2 million (cumulatively) this year. In 2011, the auction raised 1.3 million US dollars.
All proceeds are intended to help find a cure for type 1 diabetes and the online auction is a registered 501(c)3 so all dollars (US citizens) are tax deductible.
Happy Shopping and remember….
Research is creating new knowledge.
