Enjoy Cara’s Monday post for T1 Diabetes Cure- Global Headquarters!

Happy Monday!

A question that we are often asked at JDCA is, “what can I do to help focus on a cure?”

As individuals and donors our voices can make an impact.  Two important first steps are:

–          Learning about the type 1 diabetes charities, research, and what is being done toward a type 1 cure

–          Asking questions to spark discussion

Learning

In order to accelerate progress toward a cure it is important to learn about what is being done already.

The websites of the charitable organization that the JDCA covers (the ADA, DRIF, Joslin, and the JDRF) discuss each organization’s mission and breakdown of activities.  The JDCA has also published reports to help examine the charitable organizations, such as expense and revenue breakdowns.  (Please see our website for a complete list of reports)

Here are some questions that can help guide your exploration:

–          What type of research is being done?

–          What are the charities funding?  The charity websites are a great place to find this information, as well as clinicaltrials.gov  which has records for all research projects in Human Clinical Trials.

–          What types of cure research is being done?

Share your thoughts with us!

–          What other questions do you have?

–          What do you think will help to inform cure research and our goal of a cure?

Discussion

Simply put, our voices are more powerful in unison than individually.  We can learn from one another and share knowledge by interacting and thinking critically.

By investigating the operations and strategy of diabetes research and fundraising we can learn what is being done to find a cure.  Analysis and critical thinking are exactly what’s needed to maximize current efforts.

For example, when making a donation, you may want to ask:

    • Where are my donations going?
    • What is the goal of this project?
    • How are you objectively measuring progress and success?
    • Is there a deadline or progress report?

Share your thoughts with us!

–          What is your definition of a “cure”?

–          When you donate, what do you want your contribution to support? Why?

–          What do you think we can do to create greater focus and awareness for a type 1 cure?

Please engage with us to share your beliefs and help to stimulate new ways of thinking in the research community.

The T1 Diabetes Cure- Global Headquarters does a wonderful job of sharing news and updates as well as providing a place for asking questions and starting discussion.

Thank you to the T1 Diabetes Cure- Global Headquarters for all you do!
