Walk to Cure Diabetes, an event aimed at gathering funds that would be put into research to find cure for type-1 diabetes and complications associated with the disease, witnessed the participation of more than 10,000 people in Georgia.
Organised by the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), the walk was able to raise around $1.9 million.
Morgan Kendrick, the President of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Georgia (BCBSGa), a body that led fundraising efforts as the Presenting Sponsor of the 2010 Walk to Cure Diabetes, said, “Diabetes remains an epidemic in our country, and unfortunately there is a strong likelihood that we all know someone impacted by this disease”.
Leading the fundraising efforts, the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Georgia raised a total of $73,000-$55,000 from the BCBSGa Foundation and more than $18,000 was raised by BCBSGa associates.
Mr. Morgan Kendrick said it was certainly true for him, and for several of 3,000 employees in the organisation and 2.5 million members in Georgia, a cause for which they continued to support the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
Hundreds of corporate, family and school teams, comprising of thousands of members, walked in unison with an aim to find a cure for diabetes.
