The chronic disease, Diabetes type 1, is a disease that mainly attacks young people. This situation is caused by the body’s inability of insulin production , responsible to control the use of glucose which provides energy in the body. This inefficiency leads to a buildup of blood glucose, and instead, body fat is used as fuel to energy production. This triggers faint spells periods because of the body sugar increase. Other symptoms are frequent urination as the body tries to regulate the bodys glucose levels in the blood. And also thirst and wounds that will take time to heal and weight loss because the nutrients are escapes the body together with the water. Early diagnosis may prevent the complications that can lead to heart disease, loss of vision, high blood pressure and arthritis, among other diseases.
Previous Miss America Nicole Johnson was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 19. Six years before she won the Miss America spectacle. Today Nicole is an Ambassador of a diabetic outreach program. Bret Michaels is arguably one of the longest living celebrities with this chronic disease. He is a musician and already at the age of 6 he was diagnosed with this disease. As he took part in the Celebrity Apprentice 3 show, he chose this disease as charity and got $ 250,000, which went to the American Diabetes Association. Other musicians on this list is Elliot Yamin – one of the three finalists in American Idol reality show, 2006. His had this diagnose at the age of 16 and he has to control his disease using an insulin pump attached to his arm.
A of type 1 diabetes celebrities which caused much controversy is Halle Berry. Her memorable role was in Cat woman where she co-starred with another diabetic celebrity Sharon Stone. Halle collapsed on stage when she was 21 years old and the doctors confirmed that she was diabetic. A few years later, this model turned actress claimed that she also had the diagnose of type 2 diabetes. This is very unusual, and it got critics from the diabetic community and activists. Another famous faces in entertainment circles is Victor Garber known as Thomas from the award-winning film Titanic. He has been living with this disease from the age of 12, and at one point in his life, he was forced to control glucose in his urine many times each day.
These people and many more from politics, entrepreneurship and field science require their daily injections of insulin to balance the energy source of their bodies, but this has absolutely not prohibited them from participating in many activities and achieving their glory in the process. Their diet may differentiate from other people, because they must check carbohydrates, salts, sugars and proteins all the time, but they still have the physics and seems to survive well in their industry. Most of them are in advocacy campaigns to help other people avoid developing this disease.
