Advancing Techniques and Treatments to Cure Type 1 Diabetes

A pediatric endocrinologist, Dr. Bryce Nelson has reported that Type 1 diabetes is unpredictable. In Type 1 diabetes, the blood sugar levels sometimes have a mind of their own. Around 3 million Americans are suffering from Type 1 diabetes. This deadly disease is also known as juvenile diabetes and it was reported that it affects about one in every 400 children younger than age 20.

This disease occurs not because the children are obese, it is not because they drink many sodas or eat candy. It is mainly the disorder of the autoimmune system. Dr. Nelson added that such kinds of diseases are incurable but the technology is advancing and some day in future, some medicine will be there for such diseases. New insulin is more advanced and rapid acting.

Nelson also reported that around 60% of his young patients are on insulin pumps. These pumps are used to maintain and controlling the normal blood sugar values.

The Executive Director of the Western Carolinas Chapter of JDRF, Campbell Manning, has reported that her company is trying best to improve and advance the treatments regarding the Type 1 diabetes. Campbell told that they are raising funds so that this disease can be cured.
