Lakewood Ranch, FL, June 18, 2012 – The American Diabetes Association of Southwest Florida will be kicking off the 2013 Tour de Cure season with a Committee Boot Camp this Saturday from 10 am – Noon in Lakewood Ranch.
We invite you to join this group of dedicated volunteers from Ft. Myers to Tampa Bay who work together in hopes to further spread the mission of the American Diabetes Association. The Tour de Cure will take place on April 7, 2013 on Lakewood Ranch’s Main Street, but planning has already been underway. Join local and regional volunteers at our upcoming Boot Camp on Saturday, June 23rd from 10 am – Noon at the Holiday Inn Lakewood Ranch, located at 6235 Lake Osprey Drive, Lakewood Ranch, Florida.
At the meeting you will learn everything you need to know about the Volunteer Committee that produces this event, what we are responsible for and learn how you can help! We will discuss everything from our mission, to marketing, to route logistics, to recruiting volunteers. We need dedicated volunteers to help us in all areas. We have needs that will fit everyone’s skill levels and interest. And last but not least, we have a great time as we join together to Stop Diabetes.
If you don’t know much about the American Diabetes Association’s Tour de Cure, the 2012 event took place on April 1, 2012 at Lakewood Ranch, where we doubled our ridership from the previous year. Riders totaled more than 550, and over 50 teams rode to raise funds and awareness for Diabetes this past April, raising close to $150, 000. We look forward to kicking off the 2013 season and we once again have aggressive goals – we are working toward 1,000 riders and striving to raise $225,000 to help support the mission of the American Diabetes Association.
The Tour de Cure is a series of fundraising cycling events held in 44 states nationwide to benefit the American Diabetes Association. The Tour is a ride, not a race, with routes designed for everyone from the occasional rider to the experienced cyclist. Each Tour de Cure event has its own character and style, no two events look alike. Won’t you consider being a part of this nationwide movement? Contact Melissa Parsons for more information at mparsons@diabetes.org or by calling 813-885-5007.
Nearly 26 million children and adults in the United States live with diabetes, including one quarter of a million in the Tampa bay area. An additional 79 million Americans are at high risk for type 2 diabetes. While an estimated 17.9 million have been diagnosed, unfortunately, 5.7 million people are unaware that they have the disease. Every dollar raised through Tour de Cure plays an important role in stopping diabetes for good and more than 75 cents of every dollar raised supports the mission.
Please join us this Saturday, June 23rd from 10 am – Noon at the Holiday Inn, Lakewood Ranch an become part of this dynamic and dedicated volunteer team.
