Weight loss has improved diabetic control and enabled some people with type 2 diabetes to come off insulin. Most physicians believe the diabetes is still present but sufficient weight loss can lower the diabetic’s insulin requirement sufficiently to enable him to have normal blood sugar without medication. They believe if the weight comes back, so will the diabetes. Other people believe, excessive fat in the liver and the pancreas causes diabetes and an extremely low calorie diet for several months can make a tremendous difference. Click HERE for a link to a study about the effect of this type of diet on the fat around the heart and its effect on cardiac function. This is only one article and the issue is being debated in medical circles. Patients also have been debating this as well. We look forward to more studies elucidating this issue.
