Join renowned cycling coach Chris Carmichael and be part of the Stop Diabetes® movement. As National Honorary Chair Carmichael will participate in the American Diabetes Association’s Tour de Cure® Colorado annual cycling event that raises money to help change the future of diabetes and stop its devastating complications. He will join nearly 2,000 cyclists from Colorado riding in the event on August 18 at the Boulder County Fairgrounds.
Chris Carmichael, former coach to Lance Armstrong and founder and CEO of Colorado Springs-based Carmichael Training Systems, will be riding at five different Tour de Cure locations throughout the country as the National Honorary Chair. Carmichael is a world-class and world-renowned coach, who now spends the bulk of his time working with everyday athletes – those who, while they may not be Lance Armstrongs in the making, are highly focused on improving their health through fitness.
“We are proud to have Chris Carmichael joining us as we strive to raise funds to bring us that much closer to stopping this disease that affects 316,000 people in our community,” commented Kelly Jackson, Director –Tour de Cure Colorado.
Carmichael became involved with the Tour de Cure because he understands how much of an impact healthy living through diet and exercise can make on preventing and managing type 2 diabetes, the most common type of diabetes. He also has a personal connection to diabetes, through his daughter’s best friend who has type 1. Watching the girls grow up together has shown him how difficult it can be for people to manage this disease while trying to lead a normal life.
When you register for Tour de Cure Colorado you could qualify to ride with Chris, win a 6-month Carmichael Training Systems Premium Coaching Package, or entry to one 2012 CTS Climbing Camp. Carmichael Training Systems will also donate 10% of the cost of training packages purchased by Tour de Cure Colorado participants after completion of a camp. Cyclists from around the region will gather at the Boulder County Fairgrounds in Longmont to participate in the event and help raise funds to stop this devastating disease. Four routes are available for all ability levels and ages and cover beautiful and challenging terrain. Tour de Cure Colorado is known among cyclists as the best supported ride in Colorado. Rest stops, riding medical support and SAG vehicles are an important component of this ride. As is the after party! The fairgrounds will be full of free food and drinks, live entertainment and activities for all ages as well as a wellness zone. Individuals and teams are coming together to not only enjoy a great ride, but raise crucial funds for local programs serving those with diabetes and their families, as well as individuals at-risk of developing the disease.
