I am going Mexican this morning. Change from the yogurt routine. I wonder what refried beans would taste like with cinnamon on them…..mmmm, think I shall pass on that and save it for later.

I managed to acquire two kinds of refried beans. They are the only ones I can find, the sugar content is so small I thought my eyes had failed me and one lot are spicy whilst the others are just plain.

I really love the spicy ones and as curry is good for diabetes I didn’t think it would alter the eating of them too much. However, I have discovered that the ordinary ones are completely different. A totally different consistency, and more akin to that stuff one shoves into a baby’s mouth, scrape across their lips as they play about with it before swallowing and then put back in again until it’s all gone. In short, I really don’t like them, AT ALL.

There MUST be somewhere, a supermarket, a store, a health food shop where I can get ordinary refried beans…….but failing that I’m going for more of the spicy ones. Oh and I still can’t find unsweetened pomegranate juice………

[editor’s note: you can make refried beans by pureeing a drained can of pinto or black beans in the food processor or blender. Season as desired.]

Hello from London, England. My name is Susannah Rettel and I am a retired special needs teacher with a particular interest in dyslexia. I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes seven years ago and have fought constantly to control it with diet and exercise, as I firmly believed that if you could develop it you could also reverse it. My leisure time is spent gardening, reading, walking, going to Zumba dance classes, and listening to music. I became a Reiki Master/teacher and practitioner in 2001 and I haven’t looked back since. I love traveling, meeting new people, spending time with family and friends and just enjoying my retirement, preferably in the sunshine.
