About 250 walkers hit the trail at Waterworks Park on Sunday morning to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
The 11th annual Telus Walk to cure diabetes saw participants walk about 2.5 kilometres from the park to Glenhyrst Gardens and back, before enjoying a barbecue lunch in support of their efforts.
“We’re always thrilled with the turnout. The community is very supportive,” said JDRF fund-raising co-ordinator Anne Martin.
Organizers hoped the walk would raise at least $39,000, she said.
Last year’s event brought in about $45,000 and, over the past 10 years, the walk has raised $250,000 for diabetes research.
More than 300,000 Canadians living with Type 1 diabetes require daily insulin injections and must adhere to strict regimens of diet and exercise.
