A number of weeks ago we added a feature to our website where we offered Donors wishing to let the foundations know that they want their donated money to be used strictly toward a cure to share their views in a letter that could use to accompany their donations.

We want to get more people involved in this initiative, because it promises to be one of the most effective and direct ways of communicating with the foundations and letting them know that if people donate money to fundraisers specifically promoting the search for a cure, than that money should be used for that purpose.

There is only one way to get the attention of those in power and that is to speak out in unison and demand that we see changes in the search for a Practical Cure. As a reminder, none of the major diabetes foundations offer a definition of a cure and none offer a timeline for achieving one.  This encourages false hope and spreads resources to a number of projects unrelated to a cure.

We have been waiting for a cure ever since insulin was discovered around 90 years ago. Science has advanced significantly but no well-defined objectives have been set in the search for a cure. Type 1 diabetes is still a very complex disease and much remains to be learned. That is why now, more than ever, we have to put pressure on the research foundations to use the hundreds of millions they receive every year (from cure related fundraising initiatives) toward focused Practical Cure research.

Fill out our Donor Action Letter to accompany your next donation and lend your voice to the cause – step by step, we are going to grow and have our demands heard.
