Juvenile diabetes can hit at any age.

Some 3 million Americans are affected.

And every year, more than 15,000 children are diagnosed.

Juvenile or type one diabetes happens when the body’s immune system attacks and destroys the insulin- producing cells in the pancreas.

So far, there’s no cure.

That’s why a group of dedicated people are getting to the starting line on Sunday, and they hope you’ll lace up your sneakers and join them.

10-year-old Erin Bush from Guilderland was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes about 2 years ago.

That’s why Erin and her family were eager to join forces with Molly Skinner and her family, to raise funds for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

With your support of the race, they’ll get a little closer.

The 5K run to cure Juvenile Diabetes is at the Crossings in Colonie, this Mother’s day.

Registration is at 8:30.

The kids run starts at 9:30, adults start at 10.

It’s 25 bucks for adults, and $15 for kids younger than 17.

All the proceeds go to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
