Food City has reached an all-time record for the amount of money raised to support a cure for juvenile diabetes.
Their coordinated effort with the juvenile diabetes research foundation raised over $53,000 through the “Sneaker Sales” program.
The money raised will go towards finding a cure for type I Diabetes. Among 46 area Food City locations, the leading store was in Maynardville where they raised over $4,000.
Food City executives said raising money for this type of cause is very rewarding. “Almost everyone in our community is touched, and has a relative or a friend that’s affected by this disease, and they get out, and they really give. They give with their hearts, it’s an easy sell, and we appreciate being a small part of it,” said Food City Executive Vice President John Jones.
Approximately 15,000 children are diagnosed with type I Diabetes in the U.S. each year. That averages close to 40 children every day.
