To the editor:
On June 29, the seventh annual “Swing for a Cure” golf fundraising event for the Outpatient Diabetes Center at Trinity Regional Medical Center was held at the Fort Dodge Country Club. Once again the generosity and support shown by members and businesses of the community was overwhelming.
Recent studies indicate that early detection and treatment of diabetic symptoms, as well as diabetes education, can greatly decrease the chance of developing serious complications associated with diabetes. The funds raised from this event will assist the Outpatient Diabetes Center at Trinity Regional Medical Center to continue to provide education and treatment to patients about diabetes management as well as help to bring diabetes prevention programs to the community.
Funds from this event will also go toward sponsoring children newly diagnosed with diabetes to attend Diabetes Camp Hertko Hollow in Boone. Camp Hertko Hollow provides children with diabetes the opportunity to be educated to all aspects of the disease and the importance of maintaining blood sugar levels. Camp also provides these children the opportunity to form friendships with other children newly diagnosed with diabetes and the realization that they are not the only youth facing the challenges associated with diabetes.
The Outpatient Diabetes Center at Trinity Regional Medical Center would like to thank Brandt, Nielsen and Associates, especially John and Christie Nielsen and all businesses and individuals who sponsored, participated, helped organize or volunteered at this event. It is through the support and effort of businesses and individuals in the community that enable us to continue to strengthen our programs and deliver new and innovative technology to the community.
With sincere thanks.
