As 2011 comes to a close, many of us will be making resolutions for 2012. A new year brings with it seemingly endless possibilities and the opportunity to improve mistakes, set goals and look forward to the future.
Many people make resolutions each year to improve their lives and become the person that they want to be. Some people work to lose weight, achieve their dream job or learn a new skill.
What can you do to make sure your resolutions are successful in the new year? Make a SMART goal. Be sure your goal is:
- S: Specific or Significant
- M: Measurable or Meaningful
- A:Attainable or Action Oriented
- R: Relevant or Rewarding
- T: Timely or Trackable
Stay tuned…tomorrow we’ll talk about the JDCA’s resolution for a cure and how you can help.

(PS If you haven’t visited the JDCA’s About Us page, or watched our introductory video, I’m the Senior Associate Editor at the JDCA and I’m filling in for Stoyan for the next two days. I don’t have type 1 diabetes like Stoyan does, but my uncle was diagnosed as an adult and I am passionate about finding a cure and focusing research toward the projects that can achieve on in our lifetime. As a recent graduate (though I guess May 2011 isn’t too recent anymore) I have a number of personal resolutions and big plans for 2012 so making SMART goals is something I intend to incorporate at work and at home)
