Question by PVR: Is it possible to cure high blood sugar problem using diet exercise only, and avoiding medicines?
I’m 38 years old, Male, Govt. EDP Staff. My Fasting Blood sugar on 10/6/08 is 187, and randomg BS is 231. I want to avoid taking medicines. Instead using diet and exercise only, i want to control my blood sugar levels. Is it possible?
Presently, i’m walking for nearly 5.5 KM / day(Takes atleast 55 minutes to complete).
And also, I want to know how much units of sugar i can reduce using diet exercise only.
Is the decision to avoid medicines is correct or not?
Can anybody tell me, What is the possiblility of my success?

Normal BS is 80-120 – you are WAY above normal. It’s not so much the amount of sugar intake that is the problem, as it is the fact that your pancreas isn’t producing enough insulin to help your body convert it. Fasting for at least 10-12 hours, your blood sugar should be at low normal, not above normal – that’s a warning sign that you should heed. A random reading of well over 200 is unacceptable. Untreated diabetes causes NUMEROUS problems and if you are unable to control it via diet, then you NEED to take medication, whether it is pill form (if you have type-2 diabetes) or insulin injections (type 1) DO NOT ignore your doctor’s advice – if he/she recommends medication, don’t wait until your kidneys and/or eyesight are failing before you listen!
