Is lap-band surgery the “cure” for Type II Diabetes?

In 2008, some surgeons began making claims that startled quite of few non-believers: Gastric Lap band surgery patients were recovering (almost instantly) from their Type II Diabetes! (That statement deserves either an exclamation or a question mark). Just yesterday, these claims were renewed across the airwaves as morning news broadcasters fanned the flame of this profound statement. The doctors who spoke (of course) were surgeons who offered the lap-band surgery, proclaiming with renewed vigor to findings from their collective patients. It seems that blood sugar/glucose in Type II Diabetics dropped significantly and immediately following the surgery, causing their patients to become insulin free. So what is at the root of this claim? Is it a doctor trying to promote their surgery or is it a result of what may be nothing shy of a miracle? http://hamptonroads.com/2012/03/lapband-surgery-cure-type-ii-diabetes-some-surgeons-think-so
