The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Gear Up to “Rock the Cure!” This Fall

ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, NJ – September  7, 2011 – Approximately 6,500 members of the Northern New Jersey and Rockland County Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) will lace up their sneakers this fall to participate in the 23rd Annual Walk to Cure Diabetes.  The annual JDRF walks raise funding for research and increase type 1 diabetes awareness throughout the U.S. Currently, three million children and adults live with type 1 diabetes nationwide.

The Northern NJ and Rockland County Chapter’s 2011 walks aim to surpass last year’s total donations and raise over $1,000,000 in funds to benefit JDRF’s ongoing efforts to find a cure for type 1 diabetes.

“Each year, thousands of dedicated individuals in our area join the walks in support of finding a cure for type 1,” said Doug Rouse, executive director, Northern New Jersey and Rockland County Chapter. “With many personally affected or close to someone diagnosed with type-1 diabetes, these loyal supporters continue to commit themselves to the cause.  This year, with their help, we expect to surpass our previous fundraising efforts.”

Local walkers who would like to participate in this year’s events can choose from the following three sites:

October 9th – Sussex and Warren Counties – Olde Lafayette Village in Lafayette, NJ

October 16th – Bergen and Passaic Counties – Medco Corporate Headquarters in Franklin Lakes, NJ

October 23rd – Rockland County – Pfizer in Pearl River, NY
