Hundreds of people showed up to show their support for finding a cure for diabetes.
The people in attendance raised 218-thousand dollars for research for JDRF, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
KDLT’s own Phil McIlrath MC-ed the event, which centered on a half hour walk at the Empire Mall in Sioux Falls.
Several people also talked about their own experiences having diabetes, and some wore shirts in honor of those affected.
The money raised will be used to conduct the research needed to find a cure.
“It’s really cool that a lot of other people care and want to find a sure for diabetes because it’s not fun to have it and it is serious,” said 14-year-old diabetic Brooke Fossum.
“Once you go to a few of these and talk to parents and children affected by diabetes. It’s a life changing event and if you can do it to help at all, it’s just an amazing thing to add the people this many teams showing up, for a great cause,” said Bill Ludwig, of Lewis Stores.
Researches who spoke at the event say they are closer than ever to finding a cure for diabetes.
