Brokmeier is the face behind The Diabetes Dude, a diabetes awareness project that is based online at www.thediabetesdude.com, with an exotic blue bird as its mascot. As part of the effort, Brokmeier has organized a group of about 50 ‘‘ambassadors,’’ or correspondents, who help correct misconceptions about diabetes, spread information about the differences between the types of diabetes and talk about treatment for diabetes.
