Perhaps it would not come as too big of a surprise, given the fact that we are still far from seeing a practical cure for type 1 diabetes put on the market, but donors who are investing money towards a cure are not having their wishes met.

Infact, only a small percentage of those resources are actually going towards a cure. What’s more, is that that proportion would be even less if those grants were more strictly defined as practical cure research grants. This new information is based on the 2010 expenditures of all four major diabetes organizations – the JDRF, the ADA, DRIF, and Joslin.

The JDCA is preparing a report on this matter, which we will have up on our website soon. Analyzing where the money is going (and where it is not) is one of the reasons our organization was founded, and our job is to provide as much information as possible to the type 1 diabetes community.
