MURFREESBORO — The Middle Tennessee Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) will hold one of the area’s largest walk-a-thons on Saturday, Oct. 8. The Murfreesboro Walk to Cure Diabetes will take place at Middle Tennessee Medical Center, with registration starting at 8:30 a.m. and the walk to begin at 10 a.m.
MTSU men’s basketball coach, Kermit Davis, will serve as celebrity emcee for the Walk and his players will be on hand to serve as Honorary Grand Marshall’s alongside kids with type 1 diabetes.
Over 750 walkers representing over 50 teams are expected to participate in this year’s walk. There is no cost to attend, but walkers are asked to pre-register online and encouraged to raise funds for diabetes research.
Attendees will enjoy complimentary breakfast from Panera, drinks from Pepsi and Sobe Lifewater, fruit, and snacks. Before and after the walk, music will be provided by local folk rock group “Three Simple Rules” and the walk will be led by members of the Woodbury High School Marching Band.
The Kids Zone is sponsored by Rutherford Parent Magazine and will feature face painting, balloon art, and a bounce house. In addition to the participation by local families dealing with the disease first hand, experts from the local JDRF Chapter will be on hand to discuss what the walk means to the organization and how the funds raised will go towards helping find a cure for this disease.
