We all know that a lot of the money donated towards a cure does not exactly go towards one. It gets spread apart by the major foundations, and only a certain portion of it is allocated for the research labs.
However, another problem sometimes is that the money that is used for research is not even focused on a cure. Instead, a good deal of it is actually focused on prevention, or detecting and halting diabetes before it has the chance to take hold of a person’s body. While that would be great to reduce the number of diabetics, it would not address the problem for those currently living with the disease.
The people who donate money to diabetes foundations do so with loved ones who suffer from the disease in mind. They want to see a Practical Cure developed in their lifetimes, so that they can experience a cure-like lifestyle. Prevention can not help in this matter, and money donated for a cure should be separate from prevention research.
It is another reason why we absolutely must unite and make our demands know. The diabetes foundations advertise a cure in their campaigns, but seem to use the money for a host of other purposes that do not correlate with the wishes of the donors. They are offering little transparency and almost no accountability with their decisions, and it is no surprise that so many people are discouraged and do not believe we fill find a cure soon.
We have to take advantage of the latest medical developments and make sure that the money going towards a cure is being used for those purposes by the foundations. This is why we need everyone on board the Alliance – your support and your desire to learn more matters a great deal.
