CHICAGO – The American Diabetes Association’s Chicagoland Tour de Cure, presented by McGuireWoods, is looking for volunteers for its cycling event the weekend of June 9 and 10. Tour de Cure volunteers play a key role in the movement to Stop Diabetes by supporting all the cyclists that raise money to help stop this disease that affects 25.8 million people in the U.S.

“If you know someone with diabetes, if you like cycling or if you love to help out a good cause, the Tour de Cure is a great opportunity to take action,” said Mary Jane Adkins, the volunteer coordinator for the Chicagoland Tour de Cure. “Every little bit helps make the Tour De Cure the great event it is!”

Volunteer work can range from setting up the day before the event to checking in the riders or handing out food on the day of the event. There are some technical skills, too, such as HAM radio operators or drivers who provide SAG (Support And Gear) for the riders.

“The ride covers 140 miles of roads and trails and goes through 17 communities with 10 rest stops,” said Adkins. “With over a thousand cyclists it takes a small army of dedicated and fun people that help cheer on and motivate the cyclists, many who have diabetes themselves.”

The Tour de Cure is a charity bike ride in support of the American Diabetes Association event that starts at Wheaton Warrenville South High School in Wheaton, IL and goes through many communities throughout DuPage and Kane County.
