LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) — The Central Arkansas chapter of the American Diabetes Association is trying to bring an end to diabetes with the annual bicycle race Tour de Cure this weekend.??It’s the twenty year for the Tour de Cure, which has raised millions of dollars to fund research, provide services, and give voice to those denied their rights because of diabetes.

Over 24 million Americans have diabetes, every 20 seconds someone is diagnosed. Diabetes often goes undiagnosed because many of its symptoms seem so harmless. Recent studies indicate that the early detection of diabetes symptoms and treatment can decrease the chance of developing the complications of diabetes.

Symptoms for Type 1 diabetes include unusual thirst, frequent urination, unusual weight loss and fatigue.  Type 2 diabetes symptoms include any of the type 1 symptoms and blurred vision, cuts or bruises slow to heal and tingling/numbness in the hands and feet.

The Tour de Cure is this Saturday, April 9th  at Murray Park. There are four routes of different lengths for riders of all skill levels, from a leisurely 20 mile route to a more challenging 100 mile route. (See below for check-in and start times.)??All Tour de Cure routes are fully supported with SAG vehicles, mechanical support, and rest stops stocked with hydration and a variety of snacks to keep cyclists fueled.??For more information on the walk, call 1-888-DIABETES or contact Rick Selig at rselig@diabetes.org.
