Council Rock School District is partnering with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation to host the Walk To Cure Diabetes this Sunday at Bucks County Community College. Registration for the event begins at 9 a.m. and the walk starts at 10 a.m.

The three-mile walk raises money to find a cure for type 1 diabetes, which is an autoimmune disease in which the pancreas stops producing insulin, the hormone that enables people to get energy from food, according to information provided on the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation website.

According to the event website, organizers hope to raise more than $300,000 for the cause at the local walk.

Walkers can participate as teams or individuals. A donation starting at $25 is requested to walk as an individual. To register, click here.

There is also a Walk to Cure Diabetes in Philadelphia the same day. Organizers said they expect 10,000 people to participate at the Philadelphia and Bucks County walk sites. Worldwide, more than 500,000 people are expected to participate at approximately 200 walk locations in a dozen countries.
