Some people from around South Dakota and neighboring states are lacing up their sneakers and walking to find a cure for diabetes.
The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s Walk to Cure Diabetes was held inside the Empire Mall in Sioux Falls Saturday.
Thousands of people come together every year to participate.
Many people with or without diabetes are hoping to raise money for a cure.
One family came from Minnesota to show their support.
“I feel type one diabetes affects a lot of families and we need to find help for them,” Sharon Jahn said.
The goal was to raise $275,000 Saturday.
The walks are held in more than 200 cities worldwide.
Nearly 500,000 people nationwide walked last year to raise $94 million.
