The major diabetes charity foundations, such as the ADA, the JDRF, DRIF, and Joslin, all receive a significant amount of their funds from direct donor contributions. So who are the people giving money towards diabetes research?

The answer, as you might expect, is that there are many different types of people who invest their money in the hopes of a cure. Some have type 1 diabetes themselves, or a relative or a close friend who is a patient, while others haven’t had such a direct experience with the disease. They can also come from different social classes and backgrounds, but the one thing that unites us all in the type 1 diabetes community is that we want to see results, and we want to fight for a future where a practical cure can become a reality.

To achieve this goal, the JDCA seeks to provide crucial information that will help donors decide where to invest their money. Our reports will analyze how the major foundations are utilizing the donations, if they are focusing specifically on a cure, what their actual definition of a cure is, and if they have a timeframe by which they believe a cure can be developped.

This knowlegde will create transparency and help the community determine the most promising avenues towards a cure. Choosing where to donate is an important decision, and we believe people need to know all the factors involved from an objective standpoint – which is what the JDCA provides.
